In the past few years the Putbus festival, better known as the Rossini Festival, has developed its profile through quality and an interesting artistic concept and is open to the entire Belcanto Repertoire.

Besides visiting exhibitions in the Orangerie or the Guest House, visiting the museums of Putbus can be very rewarding. The Clock Museum at 13 Alleestraβe offers visitors the opportunity to view historical and precious works of art.

A guided walk through the park of Putbus promises relaxation; recreation; education and stimulation. Last but not least, Putbus’s protected historical monuments are an architectural experience worth seeing.

Putbus Schlosspark

All year round nature lovers will have interesting and almost inexhaustible opportunities to explore Putbus and the whole island of Rügen. Once laid out in French style, the Schlosspark (75 acres), has been transformed into an English park with a deer enclosure. Isle of Vilm

Blick auf die Insel Vilm

View of the Isle of Vilm
The Isle of Vilm is a marvellous example of the North German coastal landscape. It is situated near the Island of Rügen in the Rügen Bodden, extending over 2, 5 km with a size of 94 ha. The island is up to 37, 5 m above sea level, and characterised by unique natural features, flora and fauna, typical for the southern Baltic Sea region.
The two island cores “Great Vilm” and “Little Vilm” of the late glacial northern Ruegen step are connected by the “Middle Vilm”, a narrow spit-like barrier beach which has developed on the base of a moraine core. Ever evolving cliffs, recent spits and sand bars show that continuous coastal drifting processes – abrasion on the one hand, silting-up on the other – are still actively shaping the patterns of this coastal landscape. On the island, which has remained untouched by human influence, almost the whole spectrum of coastal formations developed in the Southern Baltic, can be found.

As early as 1936 the Isle of Vilm was declared a nature reserve due to regulations laid down in 1935 in order to protect nature. Since October 1990, the Nature Reserve Vilm has been part of the Biosphere Reserve of South East Rügen.

Following the end of the GDR era, the Isle of Vilm is once again accessible for nature lovers.
Carefully adhering to the protection orders laid down by the Biosphere of South East Rügen, the town of Putbus offers daily guided walks for up to 30 people on behalf of the county of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
